After a week in Brisbane (said Brisban) I have decided to stay for a bit. In fact, I decided to stay after the first three days. It's just that good.
It's not as big as Sydney but it's just as fun. The architecture is great too. It feels like a brand new city because the buildings are all very new and there are construction sites everywhere. I can count at least five new high rise projects, one of them to be the tallest building in Brisbane. While I was in Sydney I didn't get the feel that the city was developing. I think they poured their hearts into the Olympics and have been paying for it since with nothing left for new projects. Sydney is so 2000.
So the main reason I want to stay is for all the great shows over the next couple months. There is a huge house music festival, a punk rock festival, and the national rodeo finals are coming up. I kicked things off yesterday with a 10 hr electro-hipster-clusterfuck. It was called Nevereverland and it was incredible, despite the hipster scum. I've never seen so many skinny shorts in one place. I mean, everyone there looked the same. Klaxons, Cut Copy, Van She, The Presets, etc. I loved Van She. The Presets were a killer time too. The lasers were sick. I danced my face off.
My dorm is packed with really cool people and we have been kicking it. Unfortunately they leave this week, but we have been rocking out. Wednesday we went out for a birthday and the girl that won the wet t-shirt contest looked so much like Kitty it freaked me out. Friday night=2D2F. Consumed and danced for 10 hrs Saturday and then came back, got my drink on and went out despite exhaustion. Woke up somewhere else. No comment. My hostel is at the heart of the nightlife area too so, much like Sydney, there are bars up and down every street around me.
It looks like I am going to be able to work downstairs at the bar here in exchange for my living costs. I might try to get another job to pay for concerts and party. The music scene seems pretty solid here. There are some great DJs coming through soon that I won't not go to.
After my first week in Brisbane I am craving more. Check out the picture updates too.
